God's best, God's protection, God's provision, persevere, restoration, victory

AuthorityThree years ago I prayed for the Lord to show my husband and me a place where we could get away from Western New York winters for a time. After a lot of prayer and searching for locations and accommodations we decided to go to central Florida and stay in an extended-stay motel. When we got there the desk clerk sent us to a room and the key didn’t work. Then, when we got the new key it opened the door to the wrong type of room which was occupied by a woman sitting on the bed reading a book. The look on the woman’s face as she sat on the bed and the look on ours should have been captured for a Facebook post! The second trip down to the embarrassed desk clerk resulted in a new key to a new room that blessed us with a sunny room filled with many days of sunrises and sunsets over our view of the lake. I knew it was the room that God had given us, a blessing over and above what we had asked for. After a few days in that blessed room we overheard another couple talking about the fact that if you stayed for a month the room charge was cut in half! They also said that you had to reserve the room you wanted a year in advance. I knew that God had given us a way to stay longer the following year, so we reserved our God-given room for the following year. Last year we had no problems with getting into our room, so we reserved the same room for this year. You guessed it! This year we hit a bump in the road.

We pulled into the motel and went to the desk and told the desk clerk, a young lady this time, that we were there for room 302. She said we couldn’t have that room as someone was in there! I said we reserved that room a year in advance, but she was uncooperative, Continue reading →

identityFor the past month I have been in a battle to establish my identity as it was stolen through the Social Security website.  Apparently someone set up an account in my name and managed to get my Social Security number then tried to divert my payments to a bank in Tennessee.  This person is very persistent as they attempted this in May, then after I had Social Security block this, once again managed to override the block to divert my June payment.  This person also has my health insurance numbers and has tried to change my address to Tennessee.  This persistent thief has not only caused me to spend money for my protection, but he has also caused me many hours of trying to reestablish my identity.  Neither the government nor the police are able to do anything to capture this individual at this time even though I have an address he is using in my name.  To say the least this has been very frustrating and time consuming.

Years ago I listened to a Bob Mumford teaching that talked about the 3 most important things to a person:  identity, security, and belonging and how they could all be found in Christ.  Continue reading →

boatMark 4:35-41 tells the story of Jesus and his disciples in a raging storm.  They had finished a day of preaching and Jesus was very tired.  He told the disciples to get in the boat and go to the other side.  Jesus got into the boat and promptly curled up and went to sleep in the stern.  The Sea of Galilee, basically a lake, was prone to severe storms.  Some of these disciples were very experienced fishermen who had fished this lake and been in severe storms before.  But this storm even scared them as the waves began to swamp the boat.  Imagine the scene as some were trying to bail out the boat, others were running around trying to help, and others were yelling at Jesus to wake up and help them. They needed all the help that they could get.  I don’t know if they expected him to do what he did next Continue reading →

truckOn Oct. 24th Alan (my husband) left the house to drive to prison ministry in Ohio.  The weather wasn’t bad until he reached Ohio and then he was driving on snow and slushy roads.  Just outside of Cleveland he hit a patch of slush and lost control of his truck sending it (one witness said into the cement barrier and then) into the guardrails.  It seemed to be swerving here and there with 2 semis bearing down on it.  When the truck came to a stop the front end was totally smashed in, the air bags thankfully had not deployed as they would have hurt Alan and kept him from getting out, the passenger door was pushed in and unable to be Continue reading →

roller coasterMy husband loves roller coasters.  For Father’s Day I gave him a present of tickets to three roller coasters in an area theme park.  That seemed to thrust us into a summer theme of roller coaster riding.  Some of our 6-year-old granddaughter’s Grand Camp days included two trips to theme parks for her Grand Camp fun.  Alan rode all the rides with her, but their favorites were the roller coasters.  Mine, on the other hand, were made up of carousels, trains, and Ferris wheels or just watching the smiles on their faces as they enjoyed rides that scare me.  I did go on the log ride which had two very long dives into the man-made stream.  That was enough thrill for me.  As I always say, “I don’t need to ride a roller coaster, my life is a roller coaster.”  Continue reading →

Daniel Acts Justly

act justlyIf you ever are looking for a Bible verse to direct your life may I suggest Micah 6:8 which says, “And what does the Lord require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”  If we are to understand this verse I think we need to break it into three parts:  act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly.  Let’s first look at an example of acting justly.

To act justly is defined as doing what is morally upright or good; some would say righteous or right behaviors.  It is the attempt to be free of sin or guilt by doing what is right.  Jesus Continue reading →

God's answer, God's protection, transformation, trials

walkerI’ve been in a health trial for the last four months.  First, I had increasing pain in my hips, legs, feet, and hands.  It got so bad that I couldn’t really sleep for more than 2 hours as the pain kept me awake regardless of what over-the-counter pain medication I tried.  I was having real difficulty walking, and climbing the stairs was a great trial.  I became afraid that I was going to live the rest of my days with crippling arthritis.  (This was my self-diagnosis since I didn’t go to the Dr. about it.)  I kept praying for two months as this progressed and, finally, I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Side effects.”  This caused me to check my medications.  To make a long story short, I concluded it was my asthma inhaler that could cause muscular and skeletal pain.  I called my specialist and said I was stopping the inhaler and he said fine.  I hoped that the Lord had healed my asthma, but, Continue reading →

8430349-leftovers-in-a-refrigerator-with-blank-tape-for-copyAfter dropping our grandchildren off at their parents’ house, I stepped into my living room and found princess dresses, puzzles, books, and toys scattered all around, the leftovers or remnants of a fun Thanksgiving visit.  In the frig were the leftovers of our family feast.  The living room mess made me smile with the memories of our fun times together and the frig gave me the opportunity to make something new from the leftovers.  Some in my family like sandwiches, and some like soup made from the leftover scraps and bones of the turkey we dined on at Thanksgiving.

This got me to thinking about our Father in heaven who loves to work with the remnant, the “left–over” ones.  He too likes to take the remnant and make something new with them.  Continue reading →

faith, God's protection

I was reading in Colossians this week and came upon the scripture that says, (Jesus) “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”  (Col. 1:17)  All of a sudden I remembered the “Jesus Nut” and how it was special to our family.  Continue reading →

God's protection, protection

June 19 we went to Franklin to babysit for our grandkids as Scott was performing a wedding an hour away from his home.  We got the call around 10 PM that he and his wife Christine had been in a bad accident on Interstate 79 coming home.  Scott had seen a group of 5-7 deer headed by a huge buck sitting and standing in the road…a divided highway in a dark country area.  He was traveling at 65 and was basically alone on the highway when to miss the deer he put on the brakes hard and moved to the right…which then put him in a tail spin hitting the guard rail on the back, then the front, then the back again until he landed cross ways in the center of the highway with his door facing ongoing traffic…a semi was coming toward his door, and he could not start the car…he turned to Christine and said, “Are you ready for this?” thinking that they would be killed or terribly injured…the air bags had not deployed..and he couldn’t get out of the car…cars were flying to the left and right of him…then the next thing he knew he was out of the car with another guy trying to push the car to the side…everyone putting on dome lights and blinkers trying to slow other cars down in this very dark area….before they were done, there appeared 4 men who helped wrestle what was left of the car onto the shoulder.  Scott called to tell us what had happened and that miraculously they were all right but the car was totaled.  At that moment God spoke to me and said, “Remember I told you that you have been busy about my business, so I am busy about yours.”  I knew then that God had sent angels to protect the kids from harm, and to push the car out of the way.  Praise the Lord!

We had not taken medication or pj’s etc. as we wanted to come home that evening. (Scott’s family lives 2 hours away from us.)  By the time the kids got a ride home and we got back home it was 4 AM, but we were praising the Lord the whole way for his mercy to us.  Just being with those two adorable grandkids made us so thankful that they were spared the loss of their parents.  Join us in praising God for saving their lives and sending them help from angels we will never know the name of.  Praising God, love, Char.
